Books and banter with Alexander Norman Wednesday 10th June
Friends of Highclere Books and Banter
Highclere Castle’s Library is one of the most famous libraries on screen. Many scenes from Downton Abbey have taken place within the warmth and harmony of this room.

Nestled within the world-famous library of Highclere Castle, home to around 6,000 books, the Highclere Castle Book Club offers the perfect setting for lovers of literature. Each month, Friends of Highclere are invited to settle onto the iconic red
sofas for a convivial evening hosted by Lady Carnarvon.
The evening begins with champagne, tea, and home-made sandwiches, before continuing with a private tour of the Castle’s state rooms, led by one of Highclere’s knowledgeable guides.
Every gathering welcomes a distinguished guest from the world of books, whether in biography, non-fiction, or fiction. Past speakers have included Tim Marshall, Liz Earle, Sinclair McKay, Santa Montefiore, Lydia Millen, and Susie Dent, making each
event a memorable and inspiring occasion.
Diary Date – Wednesday 10th June
Our next guest for Book Club is Alexander Norman - 'Captain de Haviland's Moth'
Alexander Norman is a writer, adventurer and aviation enthusiast with roots in aviation running deep within his family. His grandfather, and great-aunt were all apart do Britain's Moth aircraft craze, with his father co-designing the iconic Britten-Norman Island, which is still the UK's most successful post-war aircraft. He was once a captain in the 17/21st Lancers. Most recently he has become an acclaimed journalist and author.
Highclere's Cedar airman honors those who do not grow old. Many men died in the skies above the Castle and Norman's book 'Captain de Havilland's Moth' acknowledges this by following the tale of adventurous pilots like Amy Johnson and Beryl Markham as they pushed the limits of early aviation often risking their lives. It is one to read.
Free event for Patrons and Friends of Highclere.
We would be delighted for you to join us for our Book Club and become a Patron or Friend of Highclere.
